Insurance & transit through US waters ???

Hi Everyone…we are new members and excited to get out on our newly purchased 1998 26x. We are currently looking for insurance and have been asked to get a survey done. Has anyone bought insurance recently and avoided this?? Also wondering for those that transit through US waters from Crescent Beach to the Gulf Islands, do you need to notify the authorities in either country?

She was excellent, and she was able to find me an insurer that didn’t require a survey (but I will need to get one in 5 years).
