SUCIA RAFT-UP WRAP-UP

The long, hot Labour Day Weekend saw 11 boats make their way to Sucia Island for the Annual Raft-Up. The Island trails were well used, Family members camped on shore, kayaks and SUPs were enjoyed and the 2 Potlucks were delicious. Special thanks to Windspiration, Zephyr and Mover for coordinating the propane fire pit that added a special touch to the apres potluck socializing.

MYCBC LATE SUMMER UPDATE

MONTAGUE HARBOUR REAR COMMODORE’S CRUISE AUG 4-7

Details of the event and those attending can be found in Water MacTivities/Rear Commodore’s Cruise. The weather was hot, the water was cold, but everyone had a great time. Everyone managed to cross the Straight comfortably this year. The skies were a little smoky but that did not detract from the hiking, swimming, pot luck and amazing bus ride with Tommy to the Hummingbird Pub.

CRUISE LOCATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR

It is time to start thinking of where you would like to go for the June 29-July 2 Commodore’s Cruise and Aug 3-6 Rear Commodore’s Cruises in 2018. Do you have a favourite place you would like to go back to or maybe a new place you have discovered and would like to share with the club or someplace you would like to try for the first time? Now is the time to make your suggestions. Just Click on the BLUE 2018 Cruise Suggestions button at the top left of this page and you can send your ideas to the Commodore. Suggestions can be submitted until the September 15 Club Night. The suggestions will be posted in a poll in September so all can vote for their favourites. Remember we are looking for locations with a marina, within a day sail from Vancouver or Blaine.

2017 BLAINE REGATTA

12 Boats attended the Regatta this year. Friday featured a lot of rigging and launching followed by Shopping for supplies, an IPA run and a Mexican Dinner for some. Saturday featured the Safety Sail with Emergency Anchoring, Reefing and Crew Over Board practice. All boats completed the exercise including the new Confirmation Codes to practice our VHF skills and Phonetic Alphabet. Thanks Safety Officer Paul for setting this up and Ron and the Crew of Gemini for acting as the Committee Boat. The Docking for Women by Women workshop had the gals practicing their new safer and easier docking procedures. Thanks Cheryl of Blue Water Yachts for the presentation. Thanks to Paul for the presentation on the Vic/Maui Race after the Potluck dinner.

Instructions for the Safety Sail

Sunday was the Regatta with 10 boats rounding the course twice. The winners will be announced at the Year End Dinner and Award Night in November. Thanks to Energetic and Mover for setting out the Markers and Zephyr for being the Committee Boat. Thanks to Darren and Mike for their presentation on chartering in the British Virgin Island this spring.

Shouldn’t they all be going in the same direction?

Thanks Paul for the Sunday morning entertainment as he used a Bosun’s Chair to repair a jammed halyard block at the top of Zephyr’s Mast.

If it was a Mac, you could just lower the mast

Next Up MACRENDEZVOUS JUNE 2-4
